What is LASIK Eye Surgery?

Also known as Laser In Situ Keratomileusis, LASIK eye surgery is a refractive surgical procedure that is performed by reshaping the curvature of your cornea to improve your vision. LASIK can be completed in as little as 15 minutes per eye.

LASIK eye surgery can be used to address issues with:

  • Nearsightedness (myopia)
  • Farsightedness (hyperopia)
  • Astigmatism
  • Presbyopia

The doctors and staff at Seeta Eye Care will look carefully at your conditions and medical history to determine the optimal individualized LASIK solution for you. Depending on your individual needs and preferences, our LASIK surgeons offer a variety of LASIK procedures to help you achieve your personal visual goals.

What LASIK Eye Surgery Options Are Available?

With more than 15 years of experience working with laser technology, our laser surgeons make it a priority to ensure that our Poughkeepsie & Yorktown Heights patients are presented with only the most advanced and effective laser surgery eye care solutions, which is why all of our LASIK options are bladeless.

Our bladeless LASIK treatments include:

  • Wavefront Optimized LASIK
  • Monovision LASIK
  • IntraLase

Unlike most other ophthalmology offices, we perform all of our bladeless LASIK eye surgery in-house with equipment that is privately cared for and maintained to ensure it always meets our standards of excellence. Rather than outsourcing portions of your surgery to other medical care companies, we make sure that our eye surgeons and caring staff are in charge of every aspect of your surgery.

Several members of our own staff have enjoyed the benefits of our bladeless LASIK eye surgery procedures, so you can rest assured that we understand your needs and concerns, both professionally and personally.

Are There Alternatives to LASIK?

We know how important healthy eyes and good vision are to your quality of life, and take every precaution to ensure your surgery is safe and effective. Our doctors practice the latest surgical techniques and use advanced diagnostic equipment designed to spot problems before they happen. We may occasionally discover that we cannot perform LASIK to the standards of excellence we set for ourselves. However, we can offer several alternatives to laser corrective surgery.

Even if you are not a viable LASIK candidate, we can still provide you with superior visual results using safe and effective alternatives including:

  • Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK)
  • Visian ICL
  • Refractive lens exchange (RLE)
  • SMILE Laser Eye Surgery

The best way to determine which method of vision correction is right for you is to schedule a complimentary, no cost - no obligation consultation with one of our experienced eye care team members.

Frequently Asked Questions About LASIK

Is LASIK permanent?

Yes. The vision correction achieved through LASIK is permanent. However, the natural lens of the eye will change as you age, making some changes in vision unavoidable.

What can LASIK fix?

LASIK is used to treat refractive errors. It can successfully address myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. LASIK reshapes corneal tissue, allowing light to focus directly onto the retina.

Is LASIK worth it if you are over 40?

Presbyopia is an unavoidable age-related vision disorder that typically begins around age 40. LASIK can address refractive errors, but will not completely eliminate the need for reading glasses in some patients with presbyopia.

What is the maximum age for LASIK?

You have to be 18 years old with stable vision for at least six months to be a good candidate for LASIK. There is no upper age limit for laser vision correction.

Is PRK better than LASIK?

PRK and LASIK are both used to reshape corneal tissue and correct refractive errors. Both procedures can produce 20/20 vision or better. Some patients are better candidates for one over the other, but neither is superior in terms of efficacy.

How much does LASIK cost?

LASIK can cost between $1,000 and $3,000+ per eye. Much of this depends on the type of LASIK you are having performed and the extent of reshaping that will be required to perfect your vision.

Remember, after LASIK, expenses related to glasses and contact lenses are eliminated. So too are the discomforts and inconveniences of prescription eyewear.

During your free LASIK consultation at our Yorktown or Poughkeepsie & Yorktown Heights office, we will assess your specific needs and provide you with honest and upfront pricing to help you plan appropriately.
