Contact Lens Fittings
Getting contact lenses for the first time is exciting, and it's normal to wonder what will happen at your contact lens fitting appointment. At Seeta Eye Centers in Poughkeepsie, NY, and Yorktown Heights, NY, our ophthalmologists and care team are here to help you feel comfortable in your new contacts and we'll be with you every step of the way during the fitting process.
Are Contact Lenses Right for You?
Before you schedule your first contact lens appointment, it's important to determine whether contacts are the right fit for your needs. Your eye doctor can help you decide whether contact lenses make sense for you. If you have bad allergies or certain eye conditions, you may find that contact lenses aren't the best choice for your eyes.
Your First Contact Lens Appointment
If you and your eye doctor both determine that contact lenses are a good fit for you, you'll come into the office for a fitting appointment. The eye doctor will then use a device to measure the surface of your eye. From there, you'll talk about your contact lens needs. For example, if you struggle with dry eyes, one brand of lenses may be better for you than another.
Then, your eye doctor will pull a few different sample contact lenses. We’ll show you how to place the lens on your eye and you'll try on a few different brands to make sure your eyes feel comfortable. The eye doctor will also talk with you about how to safely place and care for your lenses.
We may provide you with a box of lenses to take home immediately after your fitting appointment or you may need to wait a few days to have your lenses shipped from a supplier. If you find that your contacts do not fit comfortably, simply reach out to us to troubleshoot.
