What are Injectable Dermal Fillers?
Many visible signs of aging can be traced to volume loss. Commonly composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance, dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, or enhance facial contours.
How Can Dermal Fillers Enhance My Appearance?
While dermal fillers are commonly known as “wrinkle fillers,” they can do much more than just smooth out wrinkles. Here are a few of the common concerns dermal fillers can help address:
- Diminish lines around the nose and mouth (a.k.a. marionette lines, smile lines, and parentheses)
- Enhance & restore volume to sunken cheeks or temples and eye area
- Plump & enhance the lips
- Smooth out a chin crease
- Improve symmetry among facial features
What to Expect During Treatment
Filler injections are a non-surgical treatment typically given in an office setting. Before the treatment, you will often receive a numbing cream or other treatment to minimize discomfort. The filler will then be administered by your physician. While some treatment benefits are immediate there continues to be additional augmentation in the first few days after injection.
How Long Do the Results Last?
Generally speaking, treatment typically lasts for at least one year to 18 months. To maintain your results, your cosmetic surgeon will simply repeat the treatment. To ensure optimal results techniques and amounts may be adjusted based on your individual skin care goals.
