This August, we celebrate the opening of the first Seeta Eye Center in Poughkeepsie in 1968, establishing what has now become the longest functioning ophthalmology practice in our region. Founded by Dr. Morton Alterman, who chose Poughkeepsie because it reminded him of his boyhood home, the practice gradually expanded to multiple locations and has been joined, at various points, by additional board-certified ophthalmologists and vision specialist, enabling us to provide the most effective services to everyone who walks through our doors.

Dr. Alterman retired in 2013, but Seeta Eye Centers continues to uphold his ideal by offering advanced technology and the highest quality services to help preserve and protect the long-term vision of our patients.

National Eye Exam Month

What luck that our 50th anniversary should happen during National Eye Exam Month. Our eye doctors are completely dedicated to helping our patients avoid more serious vision issues through prompt detection and treatment. The best way for us to detect potential issues is through routine preventative care. There is no better way to help us ring in 50 years of service than visiting one of our Hudson Valley locations and allowing our eye doctors to do what they do best: protect and enhance your vision through personalized services.

If it has been longer than two years since your last visit to the ophthalmologist - or longer than 12 months if you are over the age of 60 - now is the ideal time to schedule an exam. Routine eye exams allow us to detect changes in vision and to address those changes through the most effective course of action. Sometimes, this comes in the form of a new prescription for glasses or contact lenses. Sometimes, as an opportunity for laser vision correction. Other times, these exams may find an underlying issue that, if not addressed, will result in vision loss.

During routine exams, our experienced Poughkeepsie eye doctors will check for indications of both common and lesser-known eye diseases and disorders that can lead to blindness. These may include:

Some of these issues, such as macular degeneration, cannot be cured, but they can be slowed through various treatment options and lifestyle modifications. Others, such as cataracts, can be treated - and at Seeta Eye Centers, we offer bladeless cataract surgery to help ensure the most pleasing results. If a potential vision disease or disorder is noticed during your eye exam, we will provide you with information about all of your options to help ensure you are making the best choice for your vision.

We work with many insurance carriers and offer various financing options to help ensure all of our patients have access to the treatments they need. We can discuss this with you in greater detail as needed and will be happy to answer any questions you may have about payment and financing during your next visit.

Seeta Eye Centers has been proudly serving the Hudson Valley area for five decades. We plan on serving for several more. If you are looking for an eye doctor in Poughkeepsie, Yorktown, or any surrounding community, give us a call at 845-454-1025 to schedule your next exam today!
